Books and Late Updates

Eeek. Yes, there has been an update this week! I just didn’t write a real update post to go along with it. Why? Because things have been crazy here at Bug Industries over the past week, and I’ve also been sinking a bunch of time into working on Book 2.

I just submitted the re-release of the first issue of Messenger to Kablam for printing. It looks as though it’ll round out to about $7 + shipping, which is pretty sweet compared to Lulu’s 12. I’ll probably take the Lulu copy down soon (but leave up the e-book or something if I can) since it’s kind of pointless and redundant to have two versions floating around. Issue 2 will likely shape up to be around the same price, and since books aren’t terribly heavy I’ll bet shipping will be combined. I am debating/working out the logistics of doing a pre-order thing – bundling the 2 books signed/sketched in, with a sticker and/or a bookmark or some other thing. I’ll have a better idea when I get the second book finished and off to the printer, but I’d guess the price would be about $20 shipped? Does that sound horribly prohibitive? Would anyone even care? I don’t even know. D:

All that said, if you snagged a copy of the Lulu version sometime in the past year, don’t bother picking up the new Kablam print; they’re identical with the exception of a couple of ads at the end and a different cover. (Save your moneys and pick up issue 2 later this summer! :V )

In other notes, there are a couple of new link exchanges up on the links page, which I’ve neglected to mention: Wayrift and Ginpu! Thanks for linking, guys! 🙂

Vote incentives are late but will be up in a day or so – like I said, things have been crazy around here lately. Ugh.

First off, if you’re American, Happy Memorial Day! If not, Happy Yet Another Monday!

If you’re feeling kind, I’d really appreciate a vote this week! Messenger has been consistently stuck at the 252 spot on TWC for ALL OF MAY. My goal for June is to get anywhere above 200, so I’m hoping you guys will stick with me! Make a bookmark to the vote page and vote every day! Since it’s the last day of May, we’ll have a head start to gain some ground over the course of this week while TWC resets and everyone settles back into their places. I had a ton of fun working on this week’s page. I don’t often get to add in extra sound effects and stuff like that, so I really enjoy coming up with them when I do. In this case, trying to figure out what ancient speakers broadcasting a digitized voice would look like. :B

So, there’s just one page left for Chapter Seven, and the debate from a few weeks ago about whether Eldora survives will be settled at last! Meanwhile, there’s a poll about this on the forums. “Eldora lives!” is currently winning with 80% of the votes. But what do you think?

Been working away on book pages, as well. After I get a more decently-sized chunk of them completed, I plan to scan and post rough versions on the forums. I’m really happy with the way they’re turning out so far. My next plan is to set a deadline for myself to have everything completed. In my head, this is the end of June, but knowing myself I’m not sure how well I’ll stick to that. I think it’s definitely do-able, if I keep a decent pace. We’ll see how that goes.

In other miscellaneous notes, I’ve been tweaking the site a bit to make the ads more streamlined. They’re useful in that they help to fund the site and comic supplies (and groceries) but I have a hard time actually making them “fit” in. I decluttered things a bit and stuck them in their own neat boxes, and so far I’m pretty happy with the result. I also added a big vote link that’s at the top of every page now, in hopes of getting Messenger a bit further up the list at TWC. :B

Extra pages! And other stuff.

I have really got to get better at coming up with blog titles.

We are mere pages away from the end of this chapter, and I’m realizing that my supplies have been kind of beat to hell. I’ve been using the exact same set of markers since I started the comic in 2004 with only a couple of replacements here and there, and they’re finally reaching the point of no return. I’m trying to put together Book 2 and it’s hit me that some of my materials just aren’t going to make it through another round of abuse. (Still, I’m kind of impressed at how long I’ve been able to stretch some of this stuff. :O ) I need to find a way to replace at least some of the most worn out colors if I can, so I’ve decided to reinstate the extra page drive indefinitely; every time $25 is raised in donations or shop purchases, I’ll add another page on top of the regular weekly update, with up to 2 extra pages per week. There’s now a donation bar coded right into the sidebar that updates automatically on donations, and I’ll add stuff from the shop to the count manually. If you donate or buy from the shop, you’ll also be redirected to a shiny new wallpaper download featuring Eldora and Icy as a bonus.

Still working like a fiend on Book 2. Got half of Chapter Two pencilled and inked. Coming up with new covers. Making progress. This is going to be a fantastic portfolio piece when it’s done. :B

Other minor news bits:

New article: About the Messengers – A brief FAQ kind of thing about the Messengers. I plan on updating it more as the story goes along, but for now it is what it is.

Shop updates: I’ve updated the Shop to be more organized and to include some new stuff, like Brave Chio shirts and Icy charms! I’ve also recoded some things so that international shipping is now a built-in part of the store rather than a by-request thing. Trying to make things simpler. :v
