New Incentive, Google Map!

New Incentive, Google Map! published on No Comments on New Incentive, Google Map!

What’s this? It’s an end-of-the-week update!

I sort of fell off the wagon with the vote incentive comics, but they are back! Page 5 of the “Gears” minicomic is now available when you vote on TWC!

gears: vote incentive minicomic

Just one page to go after this. “Gears” was just an experiment with a few ideas for me, and I can safely say “curiosity: satisfied.” But it was fun, all the same. :B As usual, the archives of the minicomic are available to registered forum members.

Shortly before I started posting pages for Chapter Eight, I took down the “Travels So Far” map I put up a few months ago so I could update it to include the most recent parts of the story. However, I realized that I’m not very good at drawing maps. I had plans for a Flash map with clickable icons and links, but I have a love-hate thing with Flash. It’s good for some things, but it’s not good for everything. Then it hit me; Google Maps! I thought it would be really interesting to build a map with links to specific comic pages and other location information. Google Maps is perfect for this. So, now there’s an embedded map on the Travels So Far page.

I’ll admit, it’s a tiny bit of a retcon on my part, but hopefully one that most people won’t even notice. In my defense, I never really had a very specific location in mind for most of the events of the comic so far; it’s kind of taken place in Generic Wasteland-land. Some events much later on are much more specific, so I wanted to tack down where things take place in the beginning of the story once and for all, and that’s what this is. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that most of my original ideas for settings and background geography were based on the area where I live, so it makes total sense to me to just give up and place it in this region. The entire story of the comic takes place in a lot of different areas, and since it’s an alternate version of the United States, it just makes sense to actually sit down and place it somewhere so that people have some idea of what’s going on. If it’s a cop-out on my part, so be it. It is what it is.

So now you might be asking, “But Bug, I always assumed the story took place somewhere in the south! There are no deserts up north!” And I’d say, “Well well, Dear Reader, you’re totally right. But I have a solution to that. And it is called Keep Reading. Sweet mustache!”

Really, I am going somewhere with this. Just much more clearly, now.

That’s all for now. Check back Monday for a new page! 😀

Happy Monday! New Comics! New Vote Incentive!

Happy Monday! New Comics! New Vote Incentive! published on No Comments on Happy Monday! New Comics! New Vote Incentive!

First off, if you’re American, Happy Memorial Day! If not, Happy Yet Another Monday!

If you’re feeling kind, I’d really appreciate a vote this week! Messenger has been consistently stuck at the 252 spot on TWC for ALL OF MAY. My goal for June is to get anywhere above 200, so I’m hoping you guys will stick with me! Make a bookmark to the vote page and vote every day! Since it’s the last day of May, we’ll have a head start to gain some ground over the course of this week while TWC resets and everyone settles back into their places. Also, remember that for the next 3 weeks the vote incentive will be a new minicomic featuring Luke and Aki. Click on Luke below to go vote! ♥

gears: vote incentive minicomicthumbs up for not being dead!

I had a ton of fun working on this week’s page. I don’t often get to add in extra sound effects and stuff like that, so I really enjoy coming up with them when I do. In this case, trying to figure out what ancient speakers broadcasting a digitized voice would look like. :B

So, there’s just one page left for Chapter Seven, and the debate from a few weeks ago about whether Eldora survives will be settled at last! Meanwhile, there’s a poll about this on the forums. “Eldora lives!” is currently winning with 80% of the votes. But what do you think?

Been working away on book pages, as well. After I get a more decently-sized chunk of them completed, I plan to scan and post rough versions on the forums. I’m really happy with the way they’re turning out so far. My next plan is to set a deadline for myself to have everything completed. In my head, this is the end of June, but knowing myself I’m not sure how well I’ll stick to that. I think it’s definitely do-able, if I keep a decent pace. We’ll see how that goes.

In other miscellaneous notes, I’ve been tweaking the site a bit to make the ads more streamlined. They’re useful in that they help to fund the site and comic supplies (and groceries) but I have a hard time actually making them “fit” in. I decluttered things a bit and stuck them in their own neat boxes, and so far I’m pretty happy with the result. I also added a big vote link that’s at the top of every page now, in hopes of getting Messenger a bit further up the list at TWC. :B

That’s all I’ve got for this update. Thanks for reading!
