Woo, hooray for having pages done somewhat ahead of time! That means I can write my posts up a day in advance and spend the rest of the day lazing around!

Over the past few days I’ve been doing a live stream of work on pages for one of the minicomics I’m making for book 2. This is easier than streaming work on regular comic pages, because I’m doing it entirely digitally! I’ve usually been doing about one stream a day with at least one complete page, sometimes more, so if you tune in to watch you can see some of the print-exclusive stuff! You’ll have to pick up a copy of the book to see the whole thing, but I thought it could be fun to let you guys in on things as they happen. You can view streams live at Radio Chio on Ustream, and you can follow @Radio_Chio for updates on when they’re happening! They’re generally pretty spontaneous as far as schedule goes, but I’ve been doing them in the afternoons and late nights EST. Hopefully I’ll see you there!

I’m also planning on posting previews and other bits from the book as I work on it, and have already started a thread here on the forum. The one caveat is that you have to be a registered member to view it! Registering is quick and easy, and will allow you to view other extra content as well!

The book is falling together pretty nicely, although it’s taking me longer to complete than I had originally planned. At this rate, I’ll probably finish sometime around mid-July and submit it for print shortly after. I’m not sure how long it will take for the printers to do their thing, so I’d guess mid to late August. I’ve submitted the reformat of book 1 to the printer as well, and haven’t heard back yet, so I guess we’ll see how it goes. I’ve also added a poll to the right-hand sidebar looking for input on preorders! Once book 2 is closer to completion, I am considering doing a preorder deal where you order a copy in advance from me, and I’ll sign it and draw something for you, as well as include some extra goodies. :3 But first, I need to gauge the interest level, so if you could spare me two seconds with your opinion, I’d really appreciate it!

As a rough estimate, I’d guess that the preorder bundle would be about $20 including shipping in the US, possibly a tiny bit more or less. (And a bit more for international shipping.) I plan to include both books with custom sketches in the front, two stickers, and possibly a bookmark or something similar. This could change at any time, but this is what the numbers are telling me at the moment. :v

That’s about all for now. The vote incentive updates on Tuesday with the final page of Gears, so stay tuned!

New Incentive, Google Map!

What’s this? It’s an end-of-the-week update!

I sort of fell off the wagon with the vote incentive comics, but they are back! Page 5 of the “Gears” minicomic is now available when you vote on TWC!

gears: vote incentive minicomic

Just one page to go after this. “Gears” was just an experiment with a few ideas for me, and I can safely say “curiosity: satisfied.” But it was fun, all the same. :B As usual, the archives of the minicomic are available to registered forum members.

Shortly before I started posting pages for Chapter Eight, I took down the “Travels So Far” map I put up a few months ago so I could update it to include the most recent parts of the story. However, I realized that I’m not very good at drawing maps. I had plans for a Flash map with clickable icons and links, but I have a love-hate thing with Flash. It’s good for some things, but it’s not good for everything. Then it hit me; Google Maps! I thought it would be really interesting to build a map with links to specific comic pages and other location information. Google Maps is perfect for this. So, now there’s an embedded map on the Travels So Far page.

I’ll admit, it’s a tiny bit of a retcon on my part, but hopefully one that most people won’t even notice. In my defense, I never really had a very specific location in mind for most of the events of the comic so far; it’s kind of taken place in Generic Wasteland-land. Some events much later on are much more specific, so I wanted to tack down where things take place in the beginning of the story once and for all, and that’s what this is. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that most of my original ideas for settings and background geography were based on the area where I live, so it makes total sense to me to just give up and place it in this region. The entire story of the comic takes place in a lot of different areas, and since it’s an alternate version of the United States, it just makes sense to actually sit down and place it somewhere so that people have some idea of what’s going on. If it’s a cop-out on my part, so be it. It is what it is.

So now you might be asking, “But Bug, I always assumed the story took place somewhere in the south! There are no deserts up north!” And I’d say, “Well well, Dear Reader, you’re totally right. But I have a solution to that. And it is called Keep Reading. Sweet mustache!”

Really, I am going somewhere with this. Just much more clearly, now.

That’s all for now. Check back Monday for a new page! 😀

Books and Late Updates

Books and Late Updates published on No Comments on Books and Late Updates

Eeek. Yes, there has been an update this week! I just didn’t write a real update post to go along with it. Why? Because things have been crazy here at Bug Industries over the past week, and I’ve also been sinking a bunch of time into working on Book 2.

I just submitted the re-release of the first issue of Messenger to Kablam for printing. It looks as though it’ll round out to about $7 + shipping, which is pretty sweet compared to Lulu’s 12. I’ll probably take the Lulu copy down soon (but leave up the e-book or something if I can) since it’s kind of pointless and redundant to have two versions floating around. Issue 2 will likely shape up to be around the same price, and since books aren’t terribly heavy I’ll bet shipping will be combined. I am debating/working out the logistics of doing a pre-order thing – bundling the 2 books signed/sketched in, with a sticker and/or a bookmark or some other thing. I’ll have a better idea when I get the second book finished and off to the printer, but I’d guess the price would be about $20 shipped? Does that sound horribly prohibitive? Would anyone even care? I don’t even know. D:

All that said, if you snagged a copy of the Lulu version sometime in the past year, don’t bother picking up the new Kablam print; they’re identical with the exception of a couple of ads at the end and a different cover. (Save your moneys and pick up issue 2 later this summer! :V )

In other notes, there are a couple of new link exchanges up on the links page, which I’ve neglected to mention: Wayrift and Ginpu! Thanks for linking, guys! 🙂

Vote incentives are late but will be up in a day or so – like I said, things have been crazy around here lately. Ugh.
