Since “The Incident,” the environment has become hostile to most life. Additionally, many cities across North America were destroyed. As a result, people have had to find new ways to live and survive, including banding together to form tribal groups. Most of these groups have existed since shortly after the disaster, and have developed their own customs and culture.
Tribes seen in the story so far:
Kenakobe
The Kenakobe are a major force among the tribes of the Northeastern region. They have a solid base built deep within a hill, known simply as Kenakobe Hill. They have used this fortress to their advantage, stockpiling food and supplies and protecting their own people.
The protection of The Hill has allowed them to develop a complex culture of their own, breaking the tribe into four major clans: Wolf, Snake, Owl, and Dragonfly. Each clan is comprised of people who specialize in a particular skill: combat, stealth, knowledge, and medicine, respectively. Children are tested and observed from an early age and are placed within the clan which best fits their talents and personality. Children may not always be raised by their own parents, if they are found to be a better fit in a different clan. Once placed, they have regular schooling in their particular field in order to master it.
The tribe is led by a group of four Elders, one from each clan. Each Elder is an expert in their tribe’s skill. They confer with one another to guide the tribe’s actions, determining when to go to battle and with whom, overseeing the collection and storage of food, as well as other activities to ensure the tribe’s survival and strength.
Makaio
The Makaio are also from the Northeastern region, but do not have a static home base; they are nomadic. They travel the region hunting and gathering to survive.
