Comic Update, Extra Pages, Other Stuff!

Hey comic readers! Huge apologies for the continued delay on pages. I’ve been seriously busy with the new job thing. I’m not sure how much detail I want to get into, but I’m basically working the job I’ve always wanted, so that’s pretty awesome. But by the time I get home I am just dead exhausted, so it’s been interesting trying to find my footing with my comic-making schedule again. But like I said, I will find a way. I am set on finishing this story no matter how long it takes. I am considering dropping back to one update a week temporarily until I can get a buffer together, I just haven’t decided the best way to go about it yet.

Thanks to a kind reader donation, there will be two pages this week! The first is the one that’s up now and the second will be coming on Friday. As usual, the counter will roll over to zero and another bonus page will be available once it reaches $25 again. (Find out more about bonus comics by checking out the Shop!)

Thank you for your patience with my schedule slippage. I am going to put together a note in the sidebar so I (and you) can keep track of how many pages are still owed. It’s my plan to make them all up, I just have to get my life back in order, which might take a little time. Remember, you can follow Messenger via Twitter, RSS, Facebook, or Tumblr to have updates delivered straight to you when they happen! Don’t forget: activity in comments or on the forums are also extremely motivating for me! It excites me when people are interested in my story, so don’t be shy if you’ve been considering joining up with the forum or leaving a comment.

Return from the mini-hiatus

Hey readers! My sincerest apologies for the delay in updates. I have recently picked up some full-time work (which I’d love to talk about, but I really can’t just yet) that has been taking up more of my day than I realized. I am really enjoying working again, and hopefully it will turn into a long-term thing. Until then, I’m re-adjusting to a new schedule and working my way back into my comics routine after my holiday break. Fear not: no matter what happens, I have absolutely no intention of giving up on the comic. The schedule may hiccup from time to time, but no matter what the comic will continue. If there is the likelihood of an extended break, I’ll try to post as far in advance as I can.

I’m planning to leave the 2010 Wallpaper Pack up for the remainder of February, or until I have the time to come up with a new donation wallpaper. It’s really a great deal for what you’re getting, and will help to keep the comic going. (And keep me alive until I see a paycheck!)

And so Chapter Seven ends. And Eldora is still alive. For now? Tee hee. The whole debate has been fairly entertaining. Let’s do it again sometime. ;)

What else is new this week? Not much. I’ve made a few relatively unimportant changes to the site, like making it a 3-column layout to eliminate the clutter in the sidebar. I’ve also started watermarking all the comic pages. Not because I think anyone is necessarily going to steal them, but it’s one of those things I sort of feel like I should have been doing from the beginning. At least they’ll be sort of dated now, and if anyone ever “borrows” one of them, it’ll at least have a link back to where it came from. Whatever. :V

I’ve been doing a mini ad-blitz lately to try and bring more readers to the site. Traffic is definitely up, so if you’re reading this and you’re new, welcome! I hope you’ll stick around. On the other hand, if you’re already a regular reader, maybe you’ll consider passing the comic along to some of your friends? Pointing in the general direction of the Promote page, hint hint. :B

Lastly, on a completely unrelated note, go download this and listen to it. It’s free and free music is good, right? I have been a huge Nine Inch Nails nerd since forever, so I’m finding How to Destroy Angels pretty interesting and I’ve been listening to it all weekend. On top of that, I’m a big fan of the way they’ve started releasing a lot of their new music for free with the option to buy a hard copy, so I’m interested in supporting that if possible. It’s a bit like the way webcomics are distributed, when you think about it – you can read the comic for free online, but occasionally there are books or other extra physical goodies available for a small amount. At any rate, I’d like to see more music available this way someday, so I’m all for that. Vote with your wallet. :V

Catching Up

One more page to go and I’m back to where I “should” be with comics, hooray!

In addition to that, I’ve been doing a little general maintenance in my spare time and the following pages have been updated:

Q & A: Old answers updated, new questions added, and added a form for quick and easy question asking!
Links: New links added, as well as a new link section for comics and art resources.
Feeds: a new page for all things feedy. Quick RSS links for Google, Yahoo!, AOL and other popular feed readers, as well as Twitter and E-mail updates!
Sketchblog! Back before I moved, I started up a little sketchblog for miscellaneous drawings. Then I moved, and never had time to do anything with it. Now I do have time, and I’m back to posting once in a while!

I’ve been playing around with offering advertising on the site in order to help make it more self-sufficient. The ad provider I have chosen will display some graphic ads in addition to text ads. If at any point, the ads become too obnoxious or if they are offensive, please do not hesistate to contact me so I can take care of the problem immediately! Although the ads are important to help keep the site running, my readers are more important and your opinion matters. I’ve also added a page about buying ads on the site, should anyone run across this who wants to or something.

I also wanted to thank the batch of new followers I’ve acquired this week on Twitter! It’s been Follow Bug Week or something, I swear. Might I point you in the direction of Messenger’s facebook fan page as well?

11/23 Weekly Update

Not much going on this week. I’ve been putting in a lot of comic work in my free time lately, so I’ve been taking a break for the past few days. I’ve been watching a lot of Futurama, which is a fantastic show. I love the robots. :B

There are new previews up in the members-only section of the forum for next week’s page.

The new incentive isn’t up because I’m just not ready. It’ll be up soon. I’ll twitter about it when it’s ready. In unrelated and pointless news, I drew some little link icons for the top of the right-side column so you can quickly link to stuff like Messenger at twitter and facebook. How useful!

Here’s hoping that everyone (who is an American) has a delicious Thanksgiving this week! I know I’m looking forward to it. :9

(For those of you not in the loop, twitter is one of those dreaded social networking things where you can post micro-updates. Kind of like a cross between AIM and a blog. It’s pretty fun.)

Okay, so it’s been a while. Here’s the deal.

As you may (or may not, since I don’t talk much about it) know, I’m in my last year of college, and I’m just about to finish the fall semester in the next two weeks. In itself, this is a lot on my plate, but I decided to complete a thesis project which isn’t actually part of my degree requirement, which has only added on to my workload. I’m also working on assembling all of the paperwork and portfolios and other bits so that I can apply to MFA programs, which is all due pretty soon. Balancing all this with my regular job hasn’t been easy, and a lot of things have changed for me real-life wise as well pretty recently. This includes being somewhat physically separated from my scanner and some of my drawing supplies for the past six weeks or so.

I think you can see where it becomes difficult to work on a comic I’m not being compensated for in between all this. :(

I can’t make any promises, but I can say this much: I haven’t given up on the comic, and I’m absolutely going to pick it back up when I can manage the time. Updates will be sporadic at best, but this is a story that’s been close to my heart for years, and I intend to see it through, no matter how long it takes. I’ve been at it for four years and I’ve only barely begun to scratch the surface of the story. I hope to find some time to work at it during my winter break coming up soon, but we’ll see where that goes.

Lame excuses, I know, so in the meantime I’m going to open up comments on this entry for random discussion or questions about the comic in general. This is something I’ll have time to get back to for now.

And I suppose if you’re exceptionally bored, you can add me to your Twitter and listen to me blather about things that are going on at the moment. I adore Twitter. :3
