It’s been a busy week for me setting things up at my new house, but I finally have a desk and a proper workspace for doing comics again, which is really exciting after drawing at random flat surfaces for the past month or so. I managed to cut my thumb pretty badly earlier in the week, which kind of sucked. I’m just glad it wasn’t my drawing hand. D:

This is the LAST FULL WEEK for the extra page drive! If you’ve been thinking about commissioning me or buying something from the shop, February 28 is the final day of the page drive! All purchases from the shop, book purchases from lulu, commissioned art, and donations (which will snag you a copy of the current donation wallpaper!) in before midnight EST on the 28th will count towards earning a new page. One bonus page has been earned so far, and there’s still hope for a second page before the week is out. No contribution is too small!

The Cast page has been updated to include better descriptions and information, as well as some side characters who are still critical to the story. Everything has also been condensed into one main page for easier reference.

I have changed the policy for comments here this week. From now on, comments on pages will automatically close after seven days. Further commentary can go on in the forum. Any comments or complaints about this change can be taken up on the forums.

As usual, there is a new vote incentive this week, featuring Finnegan! We haven’t seen much of the younger of the Chio duo yet in the story, so taking a suggestion from the forum, this week’s incentive features facts about Finnegan. (Yet another reason to join the forums if you haven’t already! I’m always interested to hear the kinds of things people want to see on the site.)

Meanwhile, I’m working at uploading the other pages I’ve missed in the past few weeks. I found the folder I packed the comic originals in, set up a little scan station on the bed with my laptop, and set to work. Working on getting these things ready for upload this way is slow as molasses, but it works. The internet is just as slow for the most part, but it’ll have to do. I’m too annoyed with not updating when I have comics set to go.

Right now I have stuff prepared through the first few weeks of February, but hopefully everything will just be set up (like the internet, and my desk, and everything else) properly by then and it won’t even be a problem. Hopefully. I’m crossing my fingers.

I am currently moving house and am having the busiest week of my life since my wedding in August, so I’d like to apologize for the lack of commentary to accompany the past couple of updates, along with the lack of new voting incentives. I’ve only just gotten access to some very basic internet for a while, but nothing super solid for at least a few weeks.

We are quickly approaching the end of the chapter! (I am so glad I drew up a buffer while I had the time…) Nekos is finally getting around to explaining himself, thankfully! When I originally wrote the story, I had wanted to play on the idea of the supernatural as if it were a more everyday happening. The Messengers are, of course, based on the concept of angels, but there’s more to it than that. I find the idea behind those ghost-hunting shows kind of interesting, if possibly misguided, and kind of wanted to play on that idea as well. A lot of it has to be faked, but sometimes people truly believe they’ve witnessed something from the other side. I’ve watched stuff like that since I was a kid (Unsolved Mysteries, anyone?) and always found it fascinating to note the ways that people believe the dead manifest themselves in our world, whether it’s through voices on a tape recorder or knocking over objects. Why would a ghost want to communicate that way? Maybe they have to communicate that way. Stories like these, along with ideas from various mythologies spawned the ideas behind the Messengers, and the rules for why they exist and what they do. There’s much more to it than Nekos is getting into here, as you’ll see eventually.

Man, I’ve been so busy lately that these updates just seem to happen and I’m not really sure what to talk about in the update post. I am moving in a week and my life has consisted mostly of boxes, lately.
