The two flashbacks start to come together. The Makaio and Kenakobe are at war. Luke is a Makaio. Aki and Zavier are Kenakobe. This cannot end well.

The Kenakobe are a tribe of warriors, and each child is trained in the use of a weapon, although the tribe is divided into several specialized clans based on a variety of skills. Aki and Zavier are both part of the warrior clan, based entirely on their skills in battle. The other clans are based on other specialties, like healing or scholarship. This system is better detailed in one of the extra comics contained in Book 1, and will eventually come up in more detail in the regular comic. Just not yet.

The clothes Aki and Zavier are wearing are specialized armored clothing the Kenakobe have put together from metal bits and tough fabric.
